Sam S.

I think this is one of my better photos because I tried to use a different technique when matting so I could better convey my concept. The idea behind this photograph was defacing facades, therefore I took two different photos, one really posed and starry-eyed with a more harsh one and clashed them together as if it were a broken mirror. This is supposed to illustrate the underlying personality within the subject. The model appears beautiful yet cold, then underneath --what that cracked mirror is revealing-- there is a vulnerable ugly side that is trying to be hidden. When pairing the two I made sure to find pictures that were relatively similar in angle of view --both are face on-- so that there would be a seamless sense of unity and balance when they were in the final composition. Also the effect of the matting creates not only contrast but leading lines that focus into the subject.
